Stamping, Water and Laser Cutting (2D Shapes)

All three of these processes are used to produced 2D profiles of a shaper or pattern in polymers, plastics or resins in a variety of thicknesses. In the stamping process a die is used to punch out the 2D shape. Comparatively in the laser and water jet cutting processes focused beams of energy or water, often mixes with an abrasive, are used to cut the profiles or patterns of the profile into the specified material. Stamping from a die is generally used for mass produced parts and require tooling to be made, where as water and laser cutting usually comes with a higher cost per unit but is more suitable for low run production projects. Each process come with its own pros and cons that can further be refined on a project by project basis.
